What is HOT at Faye's Quilt Shop

This is what I have been doing lately. The star one is MINE and the floral one will be Jeni's I have two more cut out and ready to sew. Should be fun. I also have this wonderful black fabric with bright colored cats flying across it. I think I could use that for one too. It is a Laurel Burch fabric.
When I came back from Minneapolis my friend DeAnn was making these like crazy. She has made about 15 of them I guess. All the rest of the quilt ladies up at Faye's are making them too. Of course I HAD to make one for myself.
The design is by Tara Lynn Darr and is called the Ashley purse. Let me tell you it is the most heavily detailed and hard to understand pattern I have used in a long time. My brain must not work the same way hers does. However I rewrote the cutting instructions and that helped alot. Now I am in the process of fixing the general instructions so they work with my brain.
However once you get it figured out it is a lovely design. I get tons of compliments on it.
Love,
Nancy

  1. It is so true that instructions can be written by someone who thinks totally different from you. I know exactly what you mean when you say you are rewriting them so they work with your brain. One person whose instructions give me the big sighs is that knitter who was trained as an engineer. Waaaaay too many details, making the instructions long and drawn out, when a simple sentence would work as well. Hmmm, can't remember her name but she wrote "Knitting in the Old Way."

  2. Maybe that is this ladies problem. She is exactly that way. She goes on and on with her 'supposedly' important instructions and in the middle of a long paragraph will hide the one detail you mustn't forget.
It was so hard for me I had to laugh.
She also has included very low resolution b&w photos to explain her incomprehensible explanations. They have to be seen to be believed.
    However, I love the purse.
Luckily I have a quilting friend who is just a little dislexic (not kidding) and she is the one we go to when we have questions about this designer. She understands her!

  3. I was curious and looked it up.
Priscilla Gibson-Roberts. Isn't Barbara Walker an engineer too? I think they must gravitate towards knitting.
