Another scrappy quilt!

Hello sisters!

This quilt has a designer! Unlike many of my recent quilts.  Of course I am changing it.

I am modifying a Bonnie Hunter pattern called Kismet.  Her leader and ender project last year was the cats cradle block.  She called it fish school and I can see why.  You can see it in her free patterns tab at Quiltville.com.

This year she used those blocks in her quilt Kismet

The Fish School block

The fish blocks were so much fun for me that I was looking in all my premade scraps for half square triangles.  Bonnies were quite small but I made my fish to finish at 6" so I could use them as block exchange blocks for Treadle-On Toga block exchanges.  So my half square triangles were 3.5 unfinished.

I used quite a few HST's from my friend Esther Bring who has passed on.  It is fun to see them finally being used.  Friends have commented that the colors do not look my normal very bright colors.  Blame Esther!

This is the first toss up on the design wall.

I had both the scrappy crumb blocks and the large light HST's leftover from another project so I decided to use them instead of the string blocks Bonnie used

Next I decided the dark crumbs blocks made everything too dark.

I had a few light crumb blocks leftover from the same quilt that I snuck the other blocks from so I put them in place. You might notice that one of the light blocks in this picture is just a plain square.  I only had three crumb blocks on hand. I really liked that look better so I had to make some more light crumb blocks.  They are too much fun to make.  But messy in the quilt room!  LOL.

And now I had to make a lot more fish!

As you can see I prefer to make my half square triangles eight at a time! It is so fast that way!
