Dragonflies at the Toga

Dragonfly pattern by Jen Daly

This is the dragonfly pattern I will be teaching at the Virtual River Rat TOGA on September 17th. I will be teaching the 6.5" block so it is the same size as a block exchange block.  Those of you who are members of TreadleOn know what I am talking about.

I used a Kona black for the body and a lovely pale blue Fossil Fern for the background. The wings are a Maywood Studio fabric called Razzle Dazzle.  I couldn't resist it at a Quilt Market in Kansas City from the early 2000's.
Here is a close up.

Any fabric will work for the wings.  Batiks and shiny fabrics would be my choice. I like shiny things.  It is your dragonfly.  Use the fabrics YOU like.  Perhaps you will notice that I changed it a bit.  My wings are wonky.

Here is a simplified cutting list for the 6.5” (unfinished) dragonfly block

  • Background fabric
  • 2- 3.25 x 3.5 rectangles
  • 1- About a 6” square to be sub-cut later during class.
  • Dragonfly wing fabric
  • 2- 2 x 3.25 rectangles
  • 2- 2 x 3.25 rectangles.  (2 fabrics are optional) You can make all 4 wings from the same fabric if you wish.
  • Dragonfly body fabric
  • 1- 1” x 6.25” rectangle.

I hope I will see you at the Virtual River Rat Toga this year.  Here is the link to register for the River Rat Toga.  This class is just one of many being offered.

Hugs,
Nancy
